Taiwans International Large Ceramic Outdoor Lantern Workshop
Anne Coroneos at work creating her large ceramic lantern
Ten international artists were selected by a panel of three
judges. Each artist was required to build, glaze, fire and construct a
large outdoor ceramic lantern over two meters high or wide in a forty
five day workshop. Applicants were required to submit proposals for a
large outdoor lantern, a resume and six slides of three previous works.
In the final ten days, the Yingge Ceramics Festival and Exhibition was
held at the Yingge Museum in Taipei County.

Sculptural Installations
Anne Coroneos - Gallery of Sculptural Installations
"I love to build large ceramic works, for public exhibition and private commissions. This large lantern was commissioned by the Taiwanese Government for the Yingge Ceramics Museum."
Construction:
Each tier has eight
slab rolled sides, tapering at a slight angle. Each level was
elaborately carved and textured with spiraling star and crescent moon
windows. A thick coil wove its way up each side and top of every tier,
giving the lantern a sense of movement. An eighth level, woven from
coils and shaped like a flame, represented transformation from the
material, solid world. I had intended to use a 1200C crawl glaze,
vitreous slips and brushing pigments. Eventually I was forced to fire
only to 1080C and thus had to quickly change the glazes I eventually
used.

Resume & Information
Anne Coroneos Resume, Work History, and Qualifications.
"As I evolve, so does my work, my inner search is expressed externally through the clay of the earth,
bringing to light new forms.
I am attracted to ceramics, as it involves all the elements, earth, water, fire, & air,
which are emphasised more through woodfiring, than in any other process.
As a sculptural artist, firstly I focus on form, details such as colour, line, & texture,
are secondary but still important.
Nature is both my inspiration & my teacher, and my ambitions are to keep working
& transforming."
